Angkor Wat means City Temple. The word Angkor is derived from the sanskrit Nagara (city). It covers about 500 acres; hard to exaggerate how impressive it is.

The great walkway. Stone slabs dragged here by elephant make up this long path. Each slab has a hole to allow a rope to drag it.  Poom (68k)

This great temple-city was built by Suryavarman II between 1113 and 1150, and is generally considered the finest example of Khmer architecture.
